AWS A5.9/A5.9M: ER 409Nb StarBlaze TIG 409Nb is a ferritic stainless steel TIG wire designed for welding AISI 409 and 409Ti base metals. The addition of niobium enhances corrosion resistance, increases strength at elevated temperatures, and promotes a stable ferritic microstructure by minimising chromium carbide formation. It is widely used in automotive exhaust systems, particularly for catalytic converters. Best results are achieved with a low heat input technique, and it is not recommended for multi-pass welding.
